Coleman Instant Up Gold 8-Person Tent Discontinued

Coleman’s Instant Up Gold 8-Person Tent has been discontinued.

We recommend taking a look at the Coleman Northstar Instant Up 8 Lighted DarkRoom Tent.

Alternatively, check out our guide to 8-person tents.

A premium tent without the premium price tag – this tent presents an amazing balance between quality, ease of use, and affordability.

The instant-up design is revolutionary, making set up and take down quick and easy, even with a tent the size of the Instant Up Gold.

Coleman Instant Up 8 person Gold

Available alongside Coleman’s Silver range, the Gold offers the following advantages:

  • Advanced ventilation
  • Improved waterproofing
  • Superior fabric throughout, offering better strength and durability, and a more premium feel

This, combined with a range of impressive features, make the Instant Up Gold an awesome family tent and our top choice in the Coleman range.

  • Capacity: 8 person
  • Weight: 22 kg
  • Pros: Quick set-up, great value for money, independent access to each area
  • Cons: Potential for the rain to pool on the awning

Setup:

With its instant up, hub pole design, the set up of the Instant Up Gold range is very easy, even for first-timers. It’s also very quick, with Coleman claiming sub 60 seconds.

Once you add the fly and stakes, you’re looking at around 5min max – a welcome change to traditional-style tents where the set-up can be both complex and time-consuming.

Coleman really has designed this tent to maximise the user experience.

Weatherproofing:

A step up from the Silver range, the Gold range really shines when it comes to protection against the elements.

It is made from 75D/185D Polyester rip-stop, with a super impressive 3000mm PU waterproof fly, and heavy duty polyoxford PVC flooring.

The combination in the Instant Up Gold of high quality materials and well thought design mean that you should have little trouble even in heavy rain.

The box shaped design with fairly vertical walls does mean the tent is more likely to catch the wind, so make sure all guy ropes are fastened down correctly, especially if you expect windy conditions

Size:

The internal rooms are 1.9 metres high which when combined with the 4.2m x 2.4m floor plan provides an extremely spacious living area perfect for a family of 3 or 4, with plenty of additional room for gear.

Features:

The stand out feature of the Instant Up is definitely the unique hub pole design providing super quick and easy set up.

However, there are many other great features that combine to make this tent one of our top picks:

• Full Side awnings for shade
• Room divider that creates two internal spaces
• Large side D Doors allowing independent access to each internal living area, in addition to the large front door.
• Circle ventilation system for improved airflow – perfect for hot Australian summers!
• Internal pockets and organisers
• Power cord management system
• Welcome mat to keep tent clean inside
• Heavy-duty carry bag

We do recommend putting down the awning in heavy rain as water can pool on the top and may cause damage if it gets too heavy.

Conclusion:

Coleman’s Instant Up range is becoming a go-to for Australian campers and after thoroughly reviewing the range (and competitors), we can’t say we’re surprised.

The Instant Up Gold provides a step up in terms of functionality, performance in bad weather, and durability over the Silver range, and we highly recommend this as a premium yet affordable option for Australian family camping
