Oztent RV5 Tent Review
The 30-second tent is quite a claim, but the world patented internal aluminium frame really does allow for incredibly quick and easy setup and take-down.
Simply lay the Oztent RV5 Canvas Touring Tent out in your desired location, pull out the two sets of legs, lift the internal frame up and the RV5 comes to life. Click down the braces and stake in your pegs and you’re looking at what is surely the fastest 5 person tent set up on the market.
The Oztent range is made from super-tough 8 Ounce Rip-Stop Poly-Cotton Canvas and a heat-sealed PVC floor. It’s guaranteed 100% waterproof and made specifically to suit the harsh Australian outdoors.
The heat sealed, heavy-duty tub design of the floor means you should keep dry in even in the heaviest of rains, while the canvas build provides improved breathability, making the Oztent range ideal for warmer conditions.
More important here than with a dome tent, it is important to fasten all guy ropes if you expect any wind.
Internal dimensions are a very spacious 2.6m (L) x 2.6m (W) x 1.9m (H), coming in slightly smaller than the Blackwolf Turbo 450, but still very much suitable for a family of 3-4.
Once packed, this tent is 2m long and weighs 25kg, so requires more boot capacity than any of the other family tents we review. Some people opt to transport the RV5 on roof racks.
What a great looking tent - the army green canvas looks right at home in the Australian outdoors.
A unique slanting design provides ample standing headroom and the huge rear window provides excellent ventilation. The Oztent RV5 Canvas Touring Tent also has a super-fine insect mesh which will keep out even the smallest of bugs.
The internal space is feature packed, including clever pockets Internal pockets. On the exterior, there are handy storage pockets for guy ropes and a large front awning with optional side panels, and even an optional caravan connecter.
The storage bag is also made from heavy-duty canvas, reducing the likelihood of damage but also adding extra weight. It does, however, have options for one or two people carry.
We cannot recommend the Oztent RV5 Canvas Touring Tent highly enough. Unless the size, weight, or price are going to be problematic, there really isn’t a reason to look elsewhere.
This is a world-class tent designed in Australia for Australian conditions.
